Countdown to ATP: 5 (!) days

Flipper
Listen to: 'Sex Bomb' on Generic Flipper
If I need a record to get stupid to I put on Generic Flipper, still one of the most awesome Dumb Fun records ever recorded without sounding fucking corny. 'Sex Bomb' is made for pits full of huge grins and blunt elbows. Unfortunately they lost vocalist Will Shatter to an overdose but the new line up still looks pretty damn decent to me. I hope they bring some goodies with them.

MV / EE + The Bummer Road
Listen to: 'The Joyous Within' on Mother of Thousands
I remember first listening to Tower Recordings and feeling completely out of this world. In a positive way, can't remember the exact record but everything they've done is worth seeking out. Matt Valentine is the Godbeard of the freaky folky universe, strumming his soul to the sounds of ancient folk pioneers like Incredible String Band, John Fahey and Fairport Convention. This year's Mother of Thousands truly feels like a seminal artifact in the ongoing folk revival, hypnotic in places, ghostly, authentic (yikes) and highly addictive.

Hair Police
Listen to: 'Forged by Wreck' on Obedience Cuts
These guys delivered one of the best, if not the best, live shows of this year and that's on a bill with Prurient and Han Bennink. Felt like the last ever rockshow before the apocalyps, Olson skronking like he was the grim reaper calling out to follow him into the cracks of the earth. We stood strong though, Connelly rocked like a rejuvenated Judas Priest incarnated in short beardy dude. The way they mix rock 'n roll's filthy foundation with the greasiest gravy in noise's kitchen is like having sex with the largest hamburger ever made, on your last day on earth. When Olson said 'it's noise but it's rock', he was talking about Hair Police instead of Wolf Eyes, for real.
